The creative habit that changed the way I scrapbook
Expressing moods and feelings in a way that words and photos alone cannot
Now that we have kids, I find myself spending more of my creative time on memory keeping and scrapbooking projects rather than visual or art journaling. However, visual and art journaling still holds significance in my life, and it remains my go-to craft when I need to process my thoughts and emotions.
Through imagery, colours, and textures, I can express my mood and feelings in a way that words and photos alone cannot. To me, visual or art journaling focuses on personal reflection rather than documenting specific memories or events.
That said, there is overlap between the two. Mixed media has become a growing trend in the scrapbooking industry and is an iconic part of our signature style when creating digital assets.
It’s possible to scrapbook with an art journaling twist, but today, I want to highlight visual and art journaling—those special pages and projects that focus solely on self-expression and are most often, created just for the cathartic creative release and the process itself.
With digital software such as Adobe Photoshop, the ability to layer, blend, and experiment makes creating digital art journaling pages incredibly exciting.
Here are two art journal pages created by Ona (wombat146) using products from our Hear My Voice Series.
Lynn and I don’t shy away from themes that touch on introspection and vulnerability—this is especially true of our collections within the Hear My Voice brand.
Sonja of Outdoorry does a lot of creative journaling, here are two of her more recent entries.
Cutting, pasting, painting, and assembling has given me a new perspective on composition and storytelling. This hands-on experience has helped me develop a habit of looking deeper into the stories I want to tell, considering how colours, textures, and symbols can enhance meaning and tell a story all by themselves.

We are blessed to have Theresa Moxley join our Creative Team to work with the Hear My Voice Brand and with other various Hybrid Projects and I want to share with you some beautiful work she has done in the past with our Hear My Voice Renewing Collection.

Great essay Rachel! I loved your thoughts on the overlap between mixed media/art journaling and scrapbooking. I’m definitely caught in the crosshairs of digital scrapbooking/mixed media/hybrid scrapping now.
