What this means to us
Our thoughts on memory keeping and mixed media creating on Digital Scrapbooking Day
We are closing in on two decades since Digital Scrapbooking Day began back in 2007.
Those were heady days for scrapbooking. At one point, nearly a quarter of US households had someone in them who participated in the hobby. For many of us, like Lynn who read about the phenomenon in an English newspaper and loved taking photos of her girls, it began primarily as a way to record family events and milestones.
‘Memory keeping’, as we call it. What a lovely phrase. To scrapbook was to be the keeper, the recorder, of the memories.
But there is also the sheer joy of creating and losing yourself in making something tangible and beautiful.
The lines between art and craft, between documenting memories and playing around to make mixed media creations, blur for many of us.
For me, it is about my own personal connection with the photos that I create with, and the art that results being spurred by the memories and thoughts that bubble up. Although my initial goal was to record my girls’ childhoods for them, increasingly I care less about whether anyone else ever looks at the printed photobooks and more about the joy of creating - Lynn
It’s nigh on impossible to choose my favourite creation from the year since the last DSD, but here’s one that’s definitely in my top ten and makes me very happy.
Digital scrapbooking found me by chance, but it changed everything. What started as a spark of curiosity and a little hobby has become a lifeline. A way to slow down, gather my thoughts, and put feelings into order. Every page I create makes me pause, take stock, and reassures me just how much beauty and meaning there is in my life, even if it does feel messy and chaotic at times.
This isn’t just a creative outlet anymore, it’s woven into who I am, the way I process the world, and the way I share my stories. It’s the foundation of my career, but more than that, it’s the heartbeat of this community we’ve built together - Rachel
No doubt, my two loves have to feature on one of my favourite creations that was crafted since the last DSD and I do love this background paper (but not nearly as much as those cute smiles!) . . .
WHAT ELSE WE HAVE BEEN CREATING
Of course, equally creative is making the digital papers and creative assets that go together to make our collections and kits.
We now each have hundreds of designs in the store at The Lilypad (plus an ‘edit’ at Oscraps). To mark Digital Scrapbooking Day they are all at least 40% off this weekend and through Monday - with even more savings available on bundles or collections.
Our design catalogues are pretty huge, there’s so much to explore that’s on sale! Plus there are scores of designs added since the last DigiScrap Day, but we also have lots of new designs this weekend!!
For example:
We also have some other shop updates:
Our ‘Flow’ Mixed Media Project Kit, which was formerly only available via subscription here at Pixels, Paper and Paint within Substack is now released at both our LilyPad and Oscraps Shops
Lynn has added her ‘Unique’ Collection to the LilyPad
Rachel has added ‘Haematopus’, ‘The Assembles Collection: Folio’ along with all of her September ‘25 past ‘BYOC’ items to Oscraps
Don’t forget our whole catalogues at both shops are deeply discounted this weekend and both shops also have ‘Free with Purchase’ offers’.
Happy Digital Scrapbooking Day and as always, thank you so much for being here!
Have a happy and creative weekend!
Lynn and Rachel

It wasn't long after 2007 when I started this adventure. This is a lovely post full of memories and of course both of your creations. Congratulations. <3
I totally missed DSD this year, although I knew it was going on. I just couldn't get to it. I remember when it was something I wouldn't miss for nothing! 2007....is that when my website says it started? I know I have the history there. Glad you are keeping track!
