But first, here are today’s challenges!
HERE (a challenge from Rachel)
Show me or journal about what your ‘here’ looks like right now. It could be a page or project that’s centered around what’s going on in your life right now, or what your typical day or routine looks like, it could be a candid shot of your morning walk, anything at all about your ‘here’!
My here right now is a box of tissues and having cold and flu medicine at hand and my energy levels haven’t allowed me to create my layout for this prompt yet. Instead, I have this beautiful example from my talented creative team member Robin . . .
Her journaling talks about her Son spreading his wings and leaving the nest and her gratitude for spending precious time together when he comes back for breaks - even if that means eating ice cream outside in the winter weather!
Lynn decided to make a digital collage of three photos that sum up her ‘here’ right now.
That includes a butterfly visiting the milkweed plant that self-seeded beside the house and has provided months of enjoyment from caterpillars, to cocoons and now butterflies. It’s the little things!
Her honest journaling reveals it’s not all as idyllic as it looks. But still worth celebrating.
FAVOURITE COLOUR (a challenge from Lynn)
Colour matters.
It’s not a little thing, it carries emotional weight and messaging.
Your challenge is to create a largely monochrome page in your favourite colour.
Any photo(s) should be black and white.
You can add black or white elements and papers as well, and you might have some touches of other colours that are in the papers or elements you use - but (almost) everything else you use should be in tones of that favourite colour.
I found it quite hard to decide what colour to go with. I love using yellow and orange, and muted mauve is a contender. So I decided to scroll through my past digital layouts and see which ones really caught my eye and made me happy, and it was the ones using this royal blue:
I used paper and paints from my “The Blues” along with some elements from “Hear My Voice: Healing”. If you are creating digitally in photoshop, you may want to do what I did to ‘mute’ some of the other colours that were in the papers and paints. I simply painted with a soft brush in royal blue on the layer above the area I wanted to change, and put in on ‘hue’ blend mode.
In Lieu of Rachel’s layout is this gorgeous example from talented creative team member Roxana . . .
I always find limiting a colour palette works incredibly well when scrapbooking masculine pages and it can really help to stretch your stash - it may help you to look at a themed kit in a new way.
Mixing lots of black and white with a single colour pop has worked wonders here, the high contrast of the black is incredible and whilst there are only seven or so pops of blue it really stands out!
(Blue is winning today!)

How funny Roxana and I both went with such a similar blue hue. I need to work with that colour more :-)
