Quiet/Light/Pieces/Echoes and Fleeting: Creative Prompts 19 & 20
Our final two creative prompts as the 'These Moments Matter' month of challenges come to a close
Today’s post is a FULL one and will likely exceed the e-mail limit length - to ensure you capture all the content we highly suggest you read this post on the web here.
Welcome to the final prompts for what has been a very busy month of challenges!!
We have been creating around the theme of “These Moments Matter” all month long and we have been in awe of the flurry of creativity you have treated us with!
If you haven’t been following along and this is new to you we have noted the finer details below1
NEW RELEASE FRIDAY
If you’re here for our new releases keep scrolling to the bottom to find those, but first, here are today’s challenges featuring our final two creative prompts!
QUIET/ LIGHT /PIECES/ECHOES (a challenge from Rachel)
Nothing too taxing from me for this final prompt, the requirements are loose and abstract. My challenge to you is to simply use one of these (or more if you like) single words as a jumping off point somehow to create a page or project. It might inspire the theme, the colours, or the overall design of your finished work. Surprise us!
I found this super cute photo of Keaton in my stash of photos yet to scrap and just love how his little face is lit up with that big smile.
I therefore used the ‘Light’ prompt but I also used it in the context of keeping my background light and fresh, and also in keeping the dimensional elements ‘light’ on this page. I wanted lots of fun movement, as this photo was one of many taken during a walking exploration of the holiday park.
I used ready made stamps from my template, a few more from the kit and created this diagonal cascading flow which reminded me of our trail and all the steps we took during our fun walk.
Colours have been kept to a minimum and have been picked from his shirt and the sky using the dropper tool.
The word ‘quiet’ resonated very much with Lynn, who has just got back from a trip to Japan. The crowds and the bustle of Tokyo were a huge contrast to the snowy landscape of the park below their apartment in Sapporo, and it made her realise how much she treasures quiet walks in nature above the noise and excitement of big cities.
The word ‘chill’ here carries two meanings!
She went with ‘quiet’ colours too, and lots of white space representing the breathing space the quietness of the park gave her.
FLEETING (a challenge from Lynn)
This is your chance to document something that has been and gone, but you still remember well.
It might be a short but meaningful period of your life in the past, or it might be a hobby you no longer take part in. Perhaps it was a relationship (of any kind) that ‘had its moment’, or even a short-lived job.
To prompt your journaling, perhaps think about what it meant at the time, how do you feel about it now and what, if anything, did you learn or gain from it?
My fleeting memory is of a few days I spent alone in London. It was also the first time I had travelled alone for decades, and the first time I had left behind any family responsibilities. Completely free to wander wherever I chose and for however long I wanted, I could feel myself becoming ‘me’ again with every step.
Rachel has taken the ‘fleeting’ prompt a little abstractly and has interpreted it in the context of how short life can be and when looked back on in retrospect, how long periods of time can actually feel ‘fleeting’ as if they have passed us by so quickly . . .
Her page contains a very old and somewhat fuzzy photo of a day out with her dad at the Severn Valley Railway. She’s stepped back into the comfort zone of hiding her journaling from us on this page by creating a digital stamp from her handwriting, and then using it as a design element. It represents her personal thoughts and feelings about grief, losing her dad at such an early age and that sense of lost time.
Watch how Rachel has manipulated a photo from Hear My Voice Growing with the ‘select and mask’ tool in Photoshop in her video below, and if you have time, you can watch her embellish her page afterwards too.
She felt it’s important to show you that it’s normal to not have a plan, to go back and forth between element choices, to experiment and put things on a page and then change your mind and take them off again, so this watch me scrap style video is a little longer than normal, even though it’s been edited and sped up in places!
